First it was the fishermen and then the wealthy whaler captains, whose pretty and lovingly restored thatched houses are still admired by visitors to the island today. Thanks to the unique nature and the enormous expanses of this island with the widest and finest sandy beaches in Europe, you can still find a quiet place all to yourself.
